Australia has a sense of humour

Posted on February 25, 2011

So, as some of you know, I am trying to get myself and my partner a permanent work visa for Australia, but the length of the process is approximately the same as the time it would take me to walk from Perth to Sydney. During my research, I stumbled upon the Australian Immigration and Trade Services website for Switzerland, and, out of curiousity, I clicked on the ‘frequently asked questions’. But that was not all the information my dear hopefully-future neighbours down under wished to share. They also included a ‘not so frequently asked questions’ section with a number of ridiculous messages they had received over time. I am reposting them here for your entertainment. I hope they make you smile as much as they made me:

“Here is a selection of some funny questions we have answered over the years at Australian Immigration and Trade Services:

  • I hear all Australian women are beautiful. Is it true and if so, can you send me pictures of the available ones. (From an Italian Client)
  • I want to go swimming on October 20th at Bondi Beach. Will I turn blue? (Germany)
  •  Which direction should I drive – Perth to Darwin or Darwin to Perth – to avoid driving with the sun in my Eyes? (Switzerland)
  •  I want to walk from Perth to Sydney – Can I follow the railroad tracks? (Switzerland).
  •  Are there supermarkets in Sydney and is milk available all year round? (Germany)
  • Which direction is north in Australia? (USA)”
