Pictures take you places: View from the Galata tower

Posted on January 6, 2011

Though when seen in bits and pieces from street level, Istanbul seems chaotic and often not very pleasing on the eye, once you get yourself a little bit further up, everything changes, and you are surprised by the view of red roof tops, delicate mosque minarets perched attractively on hills, and of course, the lovely sea. If you make your way as I did to the top of the Galata Tower, and have the patience to endure quite a few fellow travellers who seem more interested in seeing the view through their camera screen and taking pictures of themselves in it rather than as would be logically expected, to just hang around there and watch, you’ll be rewarded with something similar to this…

For best results, time your visit for a sunny, clear day.
